After seeing how formal reflection positively informed my teaching, I worked on making shifts with my Art Foundations class, a survey class for 7th and 8th-grade students. Even so, I feel a rush to get through project after project during the course. An Alternate Approach: Cutting Backįor my other classes, my schedule is more traditional, as I see my students on a consistent basis. Anything where students are writing and recording can provide valuable documentation. If your school doesn’t have a learning management system that supports this type of back and forth dialogue, you can set up something similar through a private classroom blog or even through a set of sketchbooks. Provide evidence to administrators of the creative process our students have gone through and the ways our classes are building student thinking and analysis skills.Look back on student work while writing comments and grades.Create dialogue around student work and process as we respond to their entries.Direct students to refer to earlier work and connect threads between the different disciplines.See which students are connecting with which concepts and which students seem lost or unengaged. The value of these reflections and individual journals has been extremely beneficial to us, as teachers.Ĭreating this back and forth dialogue with the students has allowed us to: After the students make their entries, we can respond with clarifying questions, informal feedback, critique, and positive affirmations. This platform makes the whole process extremely easy. What was your favorite part of class today?Īt my school, we can to do this type of reflection using a discussion thread (private to the individual student and teachers) on our school’s learning platform called Schoology. How does this project tie together previous exercises and concepts from the class?.What was the biggest challenge you encountered on the project?.What was your inspiration for the project/work you completed today?.Have students respond to one or two prompts in writing. If you don’t have the technology available in your classroom, you can also have students do a quick thumbnail sketch.ģ. This can be done on an iPad or with a digital camera or another device. Have students snap a quick photo of their work. At the end of each class, set aside five to seven minutes for students to reflect on the day’s activities.Ģ. If you’d like to try something similar, here’s what to do:ġ. The daily reflections were so successful I’m considering doing them with all of my classes. Our goal was to allow them to look back on their work and see how they’d incorporated projects and concepts from all three disciplines. It was through this project we figured out how we could have students document their process through daily reflections. It’s a creative format that allows for experimentation and flexibility, but it also moves quickly! After the students have worked with each teacher, we bring them back together and work as one large group on an interdisciplinary collaborative project. While that may sound daunting, I assure you it can be done.Īt my school, the 6th-grade students work with the drama teacher, the dance teacher, and me on a rotating basis, spending eight sessions with each teacher before moving on to the next. One way I’ve found to help students reflect on the creative process is to have them record it. Pausing to reflect helps to guide this journey. The development of an iterative process that looks at where you’ve been, where you are, and where you want to go, holds immense value. It’s how artists can push boundaries and move beyond the simple reproduction of an object and into the creation of new works of art.Īdditionally, understanding how they’ve gotten from point A to point B helps our students build cognitive functions and processing. An understanding of the process not only allows for growth and learning but also for a more authentic presentation of work and self. But artists grasp the value of the process, which comes from the research, planning, and execution of a piece of work. Our society values products and outcomes, but often ignores how we get there. Why is it essential for students to recognize the value of process? So how do we build reflection time into our classroom routines? And how do we use that time to help our students better understand the creative process? Let’s find out. However, as educators and as artists, we know just how valuable it is to take time to reflect on and to make revisions to our work. There’s barely enough time to finish a project, let alone stop and reflect on the work. Sometimes you have less than an hour with students before they’re gone and a new crop of students come through the door. For many visual art teachers, time with students is precious and fleeting.

( Japanese: WAVE!!〜サーフィンやっぺ!!〜, Hepburn: Wave!!: Sāfin Yappe!! ) is a Japanese mixed-media project created by Mages. It feels sad, bittersweet and nostalgic-a good way to describe the film overall.Japanese mixed-media project Wave!!: Let's Go Surfing!! It's always portrayed as romantic ending up with a childhood friend/school sweetheart based on your shared history but at the end of the day, the person you're ending up with is not the person you're fondly remembering. It's a refreshing take how I used to go for this type of romance when I was younger but looking at it now, it seems shallow and toxic when forced. I don't see much value for the guy wanting to be together with a girl who obviously didn't change much. He got roped in and got dragged into her affairs during HS but they're adults now. But good thing the movie ended openly and more vague than that bec obviously I think the main guy could do better. I get why the main guy would feel sentimentality esp when he finally acknowledged his feelings for her and got the closure he needed from his dear friend. Like it didn't occur to her he might just come back which the main guy obviously did. Like why would she visit the main guy in Tokyo when she's obviously just been invited to a class reunion. But still, her impulsiveness and not thinking straight about anything is still there and just made me facepalm heavily □♀️. I would understand why she would feel sentimentality towards the main guy when the reunion was brought up. She did show potential for maturity when the main guy called her out in the hotel room about her coffee shop bs. Despite her being a biatch it's not like she's not redeemable. However, I agree that the main girl didn't change much at the end of the movie which is meh I guess. It's a realistic take how egoistic teenagers are and how small their world can be. I have been a loyal QuickBooks customer for the short amount of time that I used their services. This unexpected action has led to my funds being held for an extended period, causing significant harm to my business operations. I am writing to express my profound disappointment and concern regarding the unwarranted closure of my account ******** *** ***************** without providing any justification. The support reps use help files on the Intuit website to try to solve problems and when that doesn't work they b***e other programs like Windows or Microsoft. that's $2280 year and it's subject to change based on inflation.ĥ) That's a minimum 1400% increase in the price of the same software with no new benefits.Ħ) QuickBooks Online does not have the same features and capabilities as QuickBooks Desktop Premier so it's not a like comparison.ħ) QuickBooks Online does not upload lists such as recurring transactions (memorized transactions) or reports.Ĩ) Once converted to a QuickBooks Online company file, there is no backwards conversion possible to make your file a Desktop file in Canada without hiring or purchasing additional software.Ī 1400-1500% inflation is criminal!!! And to have the product not work properly or have reps not follow up with me is irresponsible and a poor business practice. The reply sent from Inuit was a cop out because it doesn't address any of the easily accessible facts:ġ) Intuit stops supporting live features in their QuickBooks Desktop Premier software after 3 years thereby giving it a 3 year useful life and forcing upgrades from their customers.Ģ) My old 2020 QuickBooks Desktop Premier cost $500 (taxes in).ģ) Intuit no longer offers QuickBooks Desktop Premier as a product you can purchase, now it's a subscription.Ĥ) The subscription is now $190 + hst every month. As of today, I have been forced to update my software yet still cannot email invoices from this software. Perhaps you should look it up by my cust # in the attached pic. I am rejecting this response because: after numerous calls to QuickBooks support, I have not received either a resolution or a case reference #. I think a mark up 1400% for the exact same software is both ludicrous and criminal! How is a company allowed to get away with this type of excessiveness? I asked Intuit that question and all they could suggest was to switch to their QBO platform which doesn't provide the same functionality. For 3 years of use the total subscription, barring inflation will be $6840 + hst. So in a nutshell, the software that used to be less than $500 taxes in, is now $190 plus tax monthly. Also, unlike the past, Quickbooks Desktop is now a subscription program. Unlike in the past, there was no tech assist (a paid service by Quickbooks) available for me to use. But I digress, this year was software upgrade year for me because Quickbooks once again stopped supporting email functionality. Clearly a time consuming pain so its not something I'm likely to test again until they have a fully functional OL platform. So during these test periods, I was forced to keep 2 sets of books to ensure no data was lost. Meaning that if you convert your company file to a QBO file, you cannot convert it back. It is also not backwards compatible with Quickbooks Desktop. Several years later, I tried it again and it still lacked the functionality I needed. I was excited when Quickbooks online (QBO) came out, I tried it and found the limited functionality of it didn't work for me. At that time I'm forced to update the software even though there is no legal tax reason to do so. Usually I purchase the download file, pay $500 (taxes in) and it supports me for 3 years until the email functionality stops. I've used Quickbooks Desktop Premier since 2007. When I went to get the film developed, I walked into this place called DuArt, which was like a lab, and the guy went, “What is this?” I looked so young at the time. So I turned the story into a script and shot it with a couple of friends in New York. She made me read it in front of everybody, and at the end of the class, she pulled me aside and asked, “What do you want to do when you graduate?” I said, “I think I want to make movies.” She said, “If I can get you money from the school system, could you turn this story into a short film?” I said, “Of course.” Somehow she got some money. I thought I was in trouble but she held up the story and went, “This is the best story.” I was shocked. I was in the back of the classroom with my head down and the teacher called out my name. I’d never been told I was good at anything by teachers, or anybody, but I wrote a story for this class. Then in high school I took a creative-writing class. I remember seeing a John Cassavetes movie, and Spike Lee’s first movie, She’s Gotta Have It (1986). HK By the time I was sixteen, I had a pretty strong sense that I wanted to make movies. It’s all interconnected, a “unified aesthetic.” It all comes from the same place, inside me, and it’s all speaking the same language.Įmmanuel Burdeau When did you start to write? It’s more about expression, how can I put what’s inside outside. For me, it was never about mastering a medium, I don’t care about that. I write books and poems, make paintings, and take photographs. If one joint is good, why not smoke ten?” Throughout, Moondog is propped up by a cast of helpful enablers, including Flicker (Zac Efron), a fellow addict sporting a beard that looks like a panini Minnie (Isla Fisher), his ever-patient wife Lingerie (Snoop Dogg), whose joy revolves around procuring Jamaica’s highest-grade marijuana and Lewis, his literary agent, played by Jonah Hill with an impressively terrible Southern accent.Harmony Korine Movies are the first thing I fell in love with, and I became known as a movie director, but really I’ve never thought of myself in such a singular way. “If something feels good, he just does it over and over again. “His character is a sensualist,” Korine says. Thompson and that obnoxious close-talking drunk at the bar who wants to be your best friend for him, carpe diem means breaking out of a rehab clinic to return to the inebriated ramble that is his life. The Beach Bum, which opens on March 29, tells the story of Moondog (McConnaughey), a privileged, bohemian poet who hangs out with Jimmy Buffet and divides his time between the dives of the Florida Keys and a mansion on Miami’s Star Island. “I never liked the idea of limiting it to some type of audience that ‘gets it.’” “However radical the perception of the work is, I always want it to come out in the most mainstream way possible,” Korine says. Like 2012’s Spring Breakers, the new film is a mindfuck of disparate styles, tones, and expectations, one that almost invites wildly off-kilter misreadings. But whereas his latest paintings are eerily vacant-mostly empty, nighttime spaces, populated only by dogs and imaginary creatures- The Beach Bum captures the strange human pageant that calls that landscape home. Korine doesn’t love drawing comparisons between his visual art and his films, but does note certain links between “Young Twitchy” and a movie like The Beach Bum-“tone, color, location, the kind of psychogeography of the world” among them.
